What is Guest blogging?

Guest blogging is both a method for building reputation and credibility in your niche and also an online marketing technique that fosters link building and brand recognition.

Companies and individuals use guest blogging to build and spread awareness of their company, product, service and their names. It is also a powerful way to increase search engine rankings.

How does it work?

It is really very simple. You, the writer, contributes a great piece of content to a website that is not your own. The content could be an article, video, third party product review, photograph, illustration or infographic.

In exchange for the content, the guest blogger (you) will receive credit in the form of a link back to their own site or social media account. Sometimes, if you write for a well set up blog owner who understand online marketing and SEO, your post may also get extra publicity as well.

The great thing about guest blogging is that the arrangement is mutually beneficial and a real a win-win for both parties.

How? Well the guest blogger gets to showcase their work to an audience that they would not have had access to before. What’s more the kudos of being published by a third party brings extra credibility to the guest blogger, and validates the writers expertise.

You can expect even more benefits when the article you post is configured properly. Add a good call to action at the end, the readers will click on links back to your site. This gives our own blog and social accounts greater credibility and more traffic.

I have personally received an increase in opt-ins and a number of serious business inquiries as a direct result of guest blogging.

Rather than go into the detail and ins and outs of how to find and gain guest blogging opportunities, I have posted this great infographic that shows you how to get started easily.

Before you take a look I’ll add that one of the best ways to get published like this is to respond to an invitation to guest post. Consider this article as an invitation to write for us.

  1. This is a great graphic! One of the main things to remember out of this post is that media is really going to be a defining factor in the future. It’s one of those things that, if you provide it, it can make the difference between you and the other person’s guest post getting chosen. It’s a great way to set yourself apart.

    • That’s very true Chris. The more you contribute to other blogs and the more diverse your medium through which you present information the better your personal online profile will be.
